Millinery Module Course: The Business of Millinery
Here’s the details of our ‘Millinery Module; The Business of Millinery’ which compliments our first module ‘Research, Design & Collection Creation’
Module: ‘The Business of Millinery’
Mondays from 11th January to 22nd March (excluding 15th Feb for half term)
9.30am – 12.30pm (UK Time) plus additional mentoring session per week
Virtually, via Zoom
Both Jenny and Marie will be co-tutoring this course, the content is based on their experience running a successful millinery business for the last 15 years and previous experience working in the retail sector in business planning and marketing.
Who is the course for?
Students who want to start monetising their millinery passion.This could be as a small scale hobby business, a wholesale business or a customer facing operation.
About the Course
The aim of the course is to introduce students to all aspects of running a profitable millinery business.The first part of the course looks at your goals, your competition and your market.The second part looks at understanding your customer, your products and the service you provide.Finally the latter part of the course tackles branding, financial planning and marketing strategies.Throughout we will be sharing our first hand experience and mentoring students in how to build a successful millinery business.
The following themes will be explored over the 10 weeks:
Week 1: Introduction to establishing values, goals and objectives
Week 2: Competition, Market and SWOT Analysis
Week 3: Understanding Your Customer
Week 4: Your Products
Week 5: Your Customer Service
Week 6: Branding and Identity
Week 7: Financial Planning and Forecasts
Week 8: Marketing Strategies: Social Media
Week 9: Marketing Strategies: PR
Week 10: Challenges and moving forwards
It is suggested that you put aside2-3 hours per week to work on your individual business development in relation to each of the topics covered.This is in addition to class and tutorial time.
Approx timetable for each session (UK Time)
9.30am – 10am – Discussion about previous weeks topic
10am -11.30am – New Topic Lecture/Presentation
11.45am – 12.30pm – Task and practical work
12.30pm – 4pm (or alternative time if required)- individual tutorials and individual review of tasks
Individual Attention and Mentoring
Numbers will be limited to 10 students in order to ensure plenty of interaction within the class and 1-2-1 support.
Each week you will receive 2-1 mentoring from Marie and Jenny in relation to the weeks topic ensuring that you are getting the support you need to fulfil your individual business needs.
A follow up mentoring session will also be offered once the course has been completed to touch base with you and see how you are getting on with executing what you have learn and help you with any specifics.
The investment in this module is £825 for the 10 weeks, instruction/tuition will be recorded should you need to miss a week but we hope that students can make the majority of the sessions.
A non refundable deposit of £350 is required to secure you place, with the balance due at the start of the course.

Students do not have to have completed ‘Research, Design & Collection Creation’ to join this module but priority will be given to those having completed it.
We will be running ‘Research, Design & Collection Creation’ on a Monday alongside ‘The Business of Millinery’ should students want to cover both modules within the same time frame.
