Jenny Roberts is one of the North’s leading milliners. Recognised for her couture brand, she has been creating beautifully crafted pieces for her clients for over 18 years.
In 2015 Jenny Roberts launched ‘The School of Millinery.’ She offers tuition in all aspects of millinery from her studio in Harrogate, UK and also virtually via zoom. She teaches to the highest standard for hobby or professional milliners and caters for all abilities. She has many years of experience in designing, making and teaching millinery and is thrilled to have taught at London Hat Week, for ‘The British Millinery Association’ and now for ‘The American Institute of Millinery’ and well as being an instrumental part of the Education Committee for ‘The British Hat Guild.
Who is this Retreat for?
- The retreat is for those who have completed the ‘Introduction to Millinery’ or had some experience working with basic sinamay shapes and trims. It’s an ideal opportunity to explore creating hat from different types of materials and to explore what felt, leather and straw has to offer. If you have some experience in textiles and sewing this course is suitable for you too.
- The retreat will be kept to 4 students

- The cost of 3 days tuition is £395
What’s included:
- 9.30 – 4pm tuition (45 mins lunch) free use of the studio, equipment, blocks until 6pm
- NB – No meals are included but we may decide to eat out together on a few nights
- No materials are included you need to bring your own or if available I can charge you for materials you take from my material stock at current supplier prices. Advice will be given before the retreat on where to purchase the materials we will need and any additional ones you would like to bring.
What will I learn?
- It is assumed that you have completed basic blocking of sinamay.
- The course will concentrate on 3 main materials and the trims associated with them
- Felt Percher with felt flowers and leaves and felt spirals
- Blocking a leather percher with a underlay of a thermoplastic material fosshape which will be adorned with hand made leather roses
- Blocking Parisisial Straw with a foundation of sinamay and creating a free form trim to compliment the design.
- Outside teaching time there is opportunity to access the block library and explore different shapes
