This Christmas, craftsmanship meets charity in the This Christmas, craftsmanship meets charity in the heart of St James’s. We’re thrilled to unveil a festive collaboration with the iconic DUKES London, celebrating creativity, tradition and giving.
Step into the newly revealed Delany Drawing Room by interior designer Russell Sage, a beautiful space to enjoy a ‘Mad Hatter Cocktail’ created especially for the collaboration, where a striking Christmas tree sparkles with handmade baubles crafted by world-renowned milliners including Stephen Jones, Lock & Co Hatters, and Rachel Trevor-Morgan.

“It has been a joy to contribute a decoration for this very special tree. For me, Christmas is a celebration of tradition both old and new, and my design a miniature ‘Gilded Bonnet’ reflects that spirit. Crafted from classic millinery materials and adorned with flowers, feathers, and festive trims, it captures the artistry and heritage at the heart of the season.”

Each bauble is a piece of artistry, available for £29.95, a keepsake from Britain’s leading designers and a gift that gives back. These can be ordered online (see bio) at https://dukes-london.glu.io
And also available at the Delany Drawing Room, Dukes, Mayfair

100% of proceeds will be donated to Brain Tumour Research @brain_tumour_research, supporting vital work this holiday season.

Join us in celebrating heritage, community, and generosity this Christmas at one of London’s most iconic destinations.

Repost from @britishhatguild In England, Saint Ca Repost from @britishhatguild

In England, Saint Catherine was traditionally known as the patron saint of lace-makers.
Since medival times, the 25th of November was the day she was celebrated and she gradually became the protector of young women: they would pray the saint to help them to find a nice and kind husband.
The tradition was particularly strong in France, where at the beginning of the 1900s the saint was officially adopted by the Parisian fashion industry, including the milliners!!!
A “fete de Catherinettes” was celebrated and young women would become “Catherinettes” on the 25th of November whereupon their friends would make fanciful hats for them using materials in St. Catherine’s colours: YELLOW for Faith and GREEN for Wisdom.
It was a day of celebrations, fancy-dress parties and fun.
This tradition became more common in England thanks to the many French milliners who moved around after WW2.

Since those days, social attitudes have changed, and most people would look upon women praying for a husband as outdated.
Since the 1970s this tradition is no longer celebrated on such a large scale, but it still continues in many Paris fashion houses.

The celebrations of Saint Catherine’s day is still dear to the millinery industry. Many countries adopted the tradition, with hat makers and milliners putting on a parade, gathering and showing off their skills creating the most outrageous hats, treated as an opportunity to have fun rather than a way to find a husband
